SPRINGFIELD, NH — Michael Yurick, age 76 of Springfield, NH. passed away on December 24th, 2020 in New London, NH.
Michael was born in New York City, on October 8th 1944. He was the second child of Steve Yurick and Margaret Parecky. After graduating from Haaren High School in 1962, Michael attended New York University.
Michael was employed as a New York City Transit Police Officer from 1965-1980. He earned many honors and awards during his time as a police officer.
After retiring from the NYCTPD, Michael worked as a computer operator for CBS Toys. He eventually decided to seek a quieter lifestyle, and found his way to NH. Upon arrival, he began working as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service. He enjoyed many years at the White River Junction, VT. post office before retiring in 2009.
Michael had a vast amount of knowledge and passion for space exploration and US Train history. He liked to discuss space science and current events. He always had a great story to share about his previous travels, and his time growing up in New York City. He was also a tremendous fan of Jazz music. Ella Fitzgerald could always bring a smile to his face.
Michael was predeceased by his parents Steve and Margaret. He is survived by his brother Stephen Yurick of Long Island, New York. He was a devoted friend and neighbor of several communities. He often spoke of his friends, ” They are always there in times of need and their kindness offers hope in this often troubled world.” Michael had a special skill for letter writing. He would often write letters of appreciation to anyone he felt had assisted him in any way. These letters brought humor, kindness and often tears to anyone who was fortunate enough to receive them. He will be deeply missed by his brother Steve, and all his friends. In honor of Michael, we ask that you take the time to write a letter of thanks to someone special.
