WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Police have arrested one man and are looking for another after the duo allegedly broke into a White River Junction home early Monday and shot one of the occupants in the arm and struck another with a metal pipe, according to a news release from Hartford Police.

Anthony Cormier, 33, has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with the home invasion. Police are seeking the public’s help in finding Calvin Therrien, 40, who is facing aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and burglary charges in connection with the incident, the release said.

The charges stem from a call police received around 1:45 a.m. Monday at a home on the 300 block of Christian Street, the release said. Police believe Cormier and Therrien forced their way into the home, shooting one occupant in the arm and hitting another with a metal pipe before fleeing the scene, the release said.

None of the injuries is life-threatening, according to police, who were going door to door on Christian Street on Monday as they investigated.

“Investigation further revealed that the parties involved were known to one another, and this appears to be an isolated incident,” Hartford Deputy Chief Brandon Vail wrote in the release.

Police declined to release the names of the victims but said they were both men, 31 and 32 years old, and they were “associates/acquaintances” of Cormier and Therrien. Police are still investigating the reason for the home invasion.

Both Cormier and Therrien have prior arrest records. Cormier was charged in July with burglary and grand larceny after authorities say he stole items from a barn near his apartment complex on Batchelder Road in Fairlee and sold them, according to a Vermont State Police news release of the incident.

Hartford police in September charged Therrien with an active warrant out of Grafton County on felony possession of heroin.
