HANOVER, NH — Richard (Dick) Ramsden of Lyme, NH passed away on December 20th. He was predeceased by his parents James & Grace Ramsden, brother Robert Ramsden, and beloved wife of over 60 years Sallie McLean Ramsden. He is survived by his sister Lorna Ramsden McCollum; his three children Katharine Ramsden, Christopher Ramsden and Peter Ramsden; their spouses Meaghan Crone Ramsden and Laura Foley Ramsden; and seven grandchildren: Hannah Rabin, David Rabin (Georgia), Margaret Ramsden Talbot (Silas), Mack Ramsden, Charlie Ramsden, Haley Ramsden and Liza Ramsden.

Born in Massachusetts, Dick grew up in Rhode Island. He and Sallie raised their family in Connecticut, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, wintering for many years in Naples, Florida where they had a second home.

A graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, Brown University and the Harvard Business School, Dick enjoyed a long and successful investment career.

After beginning his career on Wall Street and serving as a White House Fellow in the Nixon administration, Dick pivoted to education finance as the founding Executive Director of the Consortium on Financing Higher Education (COFHE) in Hanover, NH. From 1977 – 1982 he was CFO of Brown University and from 1983 – 1994 President & CEO of Kinship Corporation. Since 1995 he had been a private investor, director and trustee.

His many board activities included Trustee, Brown University; Trustee & Chair of the Investment Committee, Phillips Exeter Academy; Trustee, Nature Conservancy (RI); Trustee, Nature Conservancy (NH); Trustee, Montshire Museum (VT); Director & Chair of the Investment Committee, Lumina Foundation (IN); Trustee, American University in Bulgaria; and directorships at Student Loan Marketing Association (DE); Fleet National Bank (RI) and Oppenheimer & Company (NY).

Dick loved his farm, travel, and sailing, most of all when shared with family and a wide circle of friends.

He was passionate about education’s power to change lives, the importance of preserving land, and the intellectual discipline of investment. He loved a good party and spirited conversation with people of all ages and walks of life.
