NEW LONDON, NH — Marvin Schouten died on December 19th, 2020 at the age of 67 in New London, NH. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a 1 year battle with cancer.

Marvin was born on June 12th, 1953 in Waupun, WI to parents Marvin and Helen Schouten. He married Mary Zondervan Schouten in 1981 and they relocated to the Upper Valley where they would spend 35 years in Norwich. In 1998, Marvin, together with Mary, opened Main Street Kitchens, which would become a staple business in the local community. Despite the busyness of their entrepreneurial lives, Marv loved to connect with Mary over a glass of wine each evening, in front of a roaring fire.

His daughters, Leah Schouten and Allie Schouten cherished him as the stay-at-home dad who was present for every soccer game and available for every homework crisis. Leah’s husband, John Kresser, and Allie’s partner, Danella Demary, valued his Dad Jokes and respected him for the endless love he had for his children.

Marvin was also a beloved member of the Norwich and Hanover communities. Witty friend and reliable neighbor, Marv rarely missed his daily coffee and doughnut ritual from Dirt Cowboy Cafe and Lou’s Restaurant.

He inspired in his family a passion for travel and art, but was just as content spending quiet evenings at home with a puzzle or Swedish suspense novel. His greatest joy in his final months was spending time with his precious grandson, Louis, age 2.

Other surviving family members include sisters, Crystal Vant Hoff and Marchell Kok.

There will be no service at this time, but an online guestbook can be accessed at chadwickfuneralservice.com.
