REDDICK, FL — Geoffrey H. Nichols died peacefully in his sleep on his farm in Reddick, Florida on November 25, 2020.
Geoff was born in Haverhill Massachusetts on September 2, 1941 the son of Dr. Howard and Margaret Nichols. He attended Governor Dummer Academy and graduated from Middlebury College in 1964. He married Joan Hagerman Nichols at Holderness School Chapel on July 8, 1961. Together they created Tom White Hill Farm in Pomfret where they raised their three children, Hannah, Chris and Parker.
Geoff was a creative and astute businessman and worked hard to create a successful real estate business, Woodstock Properties and developed Mellishwood Housing, an important asset to the Woodstock, VT community providing affordable housing to elderly residents. Additionally, Geoff was a passionate supporter of the Vermont Land Trust, the Green Mountain Horse Association, and the Vermont Institute of Natural Science as well as being instrumental in bringing lacrosse to the youth of Woodstock in the 1970’s.
Described by friends and family alike as a generous and kind man of integrity, Geoff was a lifelong horseman which began as a 100-mile endurance rider and evolved into a passion, with Joanie, for the sport of three-day eventing. Together they imported Irish Sport horses which created lasting friendships in Ireland, and within the horse community. With a keen eye for a good horse, they were responsible for importing some of the top horses in the USA.
Geoff is survived by his children, Hannah, Chris and his wife Ingrid, and Parker and his wife Mimi, and his two granddaughters, Erika and Thea Johnson. His wife Joanie predeceased him in December of 2019.
A celebration of Geoff’s life will be held on his beloved Tom White Hill Farm as soon as it is safe to gather together. The family looks forward to welcoming all to celebrate the life of a good man.
