GRANTHAM — A camper that was being used as a residence was destroyed after a fire in Grantham last week, according to Assistant Fire Chief Jay Fountain.
A neighbor called the department around 1 p.m. Oct. 28 after seeing flames shooting out of the camper parked on the property at 47 Tall Timbers Drive, Fountain said. Two people live in the camper but they were not home when the fire broke out, he added.
When fire crews arrived, they found the flames had burned through much of the structure, leaving mostly rubble behind. They stayed at the scene for over three hours, putting out hot stops and clearing debris, Fountain said.
The cause of the fire is undetermined because so much of the structure was destroyed, Fountain said. But a fire marshal who inspected the area with dogs did not find any evidence that the blaze was started intentionally.
Fountain did not have the names of the two people who were staying at the camper. However, Grantham property records list the land as vacant, owned by Elias Ferreira of Nashua.
