WEST CANAAN — What’s better than reaching 50 career goals?
Netting a hat trick on the night you reach the milestone.
Ben Seiler did just that Friday afternoon as the Mascoma High boys soccer team blew past Newport on senior night, 7-1. Seiler, just a junior, joins the ranks of fewer than 40 others in New Hampshire history to ever score more than 50 goals in their careers.
“All of us are really happy for Ben,” Royals coach Keli Green said. “He’s a lifetime soccer player; this doesn’t just happen. He’s a special kid. I’ve been lucky to coach him and his teammates.”
Noah Lecuyer, Gavin Giovagnoli and Gabe Sperry each scored a goal in Mascoma’s victory. Senior Isiah Hawxhurst, making his varsity debut, scored his first career goal, too.
Colton Godwin netted the Tigers lone goal.
The Royals improve to 2-1 and host Fall Mountain on Tuesday. Newport (0-2) hosts Lebanon on Monday.
WEST LEBANON — The Lebanon Post 22 American Legion baseball program will hold tryouts the next two weekends for its 12U Minis team.
The sessions will be held on Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, from 9-11 a.m. at Smith Field in West Lebanon. The program is meant to supplement Cal Ripkin play, with weekend doubleheaders, two or three tournaments and league playoffs adding up to at least 30 games from April 1-June 15.

LEBANON — The City of Lebanon has closed a section of the Northern Rail Trail for bridge repair.
Cyclists, walkers and others heading eastbound on the NRT at Bank Street Extension will be redirected to Pumping Station Road, the Lebanon Municipal Pool and the Ruth Shepard Trail. Westbound traffic will take the Shepard Trail and pass the pool before taking Pumping Station Road back to the NRT.
The work is expected to continue through at least Saturday.
