WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Drivers should expect traffic patterns along Route 5 and Sykes Mountain Avenue in Hartford to shift Friday as work begins on a new roundabout.
New lines will be painted and traffic signals installed ahead of the shift, which is expected to start between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., according to the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
Traffic will move to the west side of Route 5, currently the southbound travel lanes, VTrans said in a news release. Two-way traffic will be maintained on that road, with one travel lane in each direction.
Meanwhile, Sykes Mountain Avenue will be reduced to one travel lane in each direction on one side of the roadway between the intersection with Route 5 and Ralph Lehman Drive.
The new traffic patterns will continue for several months, but access to businesses will be maintained, according to VTrans.
Drivers will also likely see “significant traffic delays” on Friday as flaggers guide traffic through the work zone.
