ENFIELD CENTER, NH — Dan Harrison Williams, 83, passed away September 20th after a long illness. He was born June 10, 1937, to Ada Thayer (Neily) and Walter Eugene Williams. He left high school after tenth grade to help run the family farm in Canaan, later earning his GED. At 19, he enlisted in the Army serving from 1956 to 1959 and completed an overseas tour in Germany. Dan married Jean Doris Garnhum of Enfield Center on July 31, 1964. A lifelong resident of Canaan and Enfield, he served as a member and driver for the Enfield Fast Squad in the 1980’s. Well known and loved in the community, Dan worked for the Town of Enfield and later the NH Department of Transportation highway system for 25 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with family and friends, particularly when it involved his favorite foods like chocolate cream pie and sweets. He loved animals and always had them in his life including cows, horses, a Macaw parrot, fish, dogs and cats. During retirement, one of his favorite pastimes was camping and watching for moose in Pittsburgh, NH where they vacationed for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Williams; two daughters, Shelly Holley and her husband Chris of Springfield, VT and Amy Chadburn and her husband Jeff of Falmouth, MA; and grandchildren, Tamsin Chevalier and husband Ben of Okinawa, Japan, Christopher Holley Jr. of Concord, NC, and Abby Chadburn of West Palm Beach, FL.
A private burial, for family, will be held at Canaan Street Cemetery in Canaan, NH.
