LEBANON — The city of Lebanon on Tuesday said all outside burning is prohibited because an elevated risk of fires that could spread during the ongoing drought.

The city said the Lebanon Fire Department will not be issuing permits or otherwise allowing the burning of brush piles, campfires, cooking fires and other outdoor fires until further notice.

The Upper Valley is in a moderate to severe drought, and officials are increasingly worried about forest fires that could spread.

As of Monday, Lebanon had received just 0.18 of an inch of rain in September compared to a normal 2.38 inches. Anyone with questions about the ban may call the Lebanon Fire Department at 603-448-8810.
