HANOVER, NH — Vera Mallary, 93, died at Kendal in Hanover on Sunday, September 6th. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 27th, 1927 to Joseph Gould and Jean (Mitkoff) Gould. She grew up in Newark, Delaware where her father was Head of the Economics Department at the University of Delaware. Vera attended Oberlin College and completed her Bachelors degree at the University of Delaware. Vera had a long career in child foster care working for Allegheny County in Pennsylvania. She retired in 1993.
In 1946 Vera was married to Jack Hillary Smith in Newark. The Smiths had three children Hillary, Martha and Jonathan. Vera was predeceased by her first husband and her children Hillary and Jonathan. In 1994 she married R. Dewitt Mallary. They were married in Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada, where Vera summered for fifty years making many friends, a habit she had wherever she went. She is survived by her husband who was for many years the Rector of All Saints Church in Manhattan, New York. They spent 26 years together in retirement. Vera is also survived by her daughter Martha of Salt Lake City and three stepchildren Catherine, DeWitt and Peter of Fairlee and Bradford, Vermont.
