RANDOLPH — Town Manager Adolfo Bailon is leaving his post three years after he took over the top job in Randolph.

A Los Angeles native, Bailon plans to move to the West Coast to be closer to family, the Selectboard said in a news release on Friday.

“This is a very bittersweet moment for me,” Bailon said in the release. “Although I am saddened by my decision to leave Randolph, I also look forward to being in closer proximity and sharing more quality time with my family. I am very proud of the many accomplishments achieved during my tenure as town manager and of the many lifelong friendships that I’ve forged over the past three years.”

Selectboard Chair Trini Brassard, in the release, said she and the board were “very disappointed to receive notice of Adolfo Bailon’s intent to vacate his post.”

“The Selectboard and Town Manager Bailon established a close working relationship and achieved many important goals together during Adolfo’s time here in Randolph. He will be sorely missed,” she said.

Bailon was hired in August 2017 under a three-year contract that, to start, paid him $80,000 a year, and also included a vehicle.

He previously had served as the director of the department that oversaw constituent services for the mayor of Providence, R.I., and before that worked as a congressional aide for then-U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif.

The Selectboard said Bailon will remain as town manager “for the immediate future” and will help in the “initial recruitment phase” in the search for his successor.
