CLAREMONT – A fire caused by leftover smoking material heavily damaged a mobile home early Friday evening, according to a news release from the Claremont Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to 73 McCusker Place around 5:40 p.m. Friday and found the home “well-involved” with fire, according to the release, including fire at the front entry door of the home.

It was knocked down quickly and under control at 5:54 p.m., but the structure suffered “extensive fire damage” and smoke and heat damage to portions not directly hit by the flames. There were no injuries in the incident, but the mobile home, which was not insured, was deemed a total loss, the release said.

The release said Capt. Chris Pixley, a Claremont fire investigator, determined that the cause was “improperly disposed of smoking material.”
