WEST CANAAN, NH — Sanford Arthur Goss, 82, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2020. “Sandy” was born on July 14, 1938, in Woodsville, NH to Sanford Goss and Muriel Hedenquist of North Haverhill, NH. He was predeceased by his brother, Stuart.

Sandy graduated from Haverhill Academy in 1956 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served active duty for two years and then the reserves until 1964.

Sandy married Arvilla Boyce on September 6, 1958, in Wells River, VT. He then began what would be a 36-year career as a lineman with the New England Power Company. Sandy and Arvilla lived in company-owned housing known as the “Circle” in East Barnet, VT where they met many lifelong friends. In 1967 they moved to Sandy’s boyhood home in North Haverhill, NH where they lived for nine years before moving to West Canaan, NH after a company reorganization and transfer to the Lebanon, NH office of Granite State Electric in 1976.

Sandy was an avid snowmobiler in the early years. He had one of the first models of Moto-Ski ever made while living in the “Circle.” He and Arvilla were very active in the Connecticut Valley Snowmobile Club while living in North Haverhill. They also owned Depot Camp in Pittsburg, NH and had many memorable trips to “Depot.”

More recently Sandy and Arvilla enjoyed camping with their friends as members of the New Hampshire Good Sam State Camping Club. He and Arvilla served as a New Hampshire Good Sam State Directors for three years. Previously, he was a member of the Elks, a Mason, and a Shriner. He filled his retirement years with fishing, basket making, refinishing old steamer trunks, gardening, and daily morning walks with Arvilla.

Sandy worshipped his pets; there was rarely a time in his life when there was not a dog or a cat (or two) ruling the house!

Sandy leaves behind his wife of sixty-one years, Arvilla Boyce Goss; his daughter Kelli Goss of Raleigh, NC; and his son James Goss and his wife Nancy Hurst Goss of Moultonborough, NH; and his granddaughters, Jennifer and Dana.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Horse Meadow Cemetery in North Haverhill, NH. Due to COVID-19, the family requests that guests wear a mask and observe social distancing.
