GRANTHAM — Former Hanover High golfer Jack Meehan jumped up the leaderboard to second place in the championship flight after two rounds of the New Hampshire Golf Association Junior Championship at Eastman Golf Links on Tuesday.
Meehan, who graduated from Hanover earlier this year, matched the day’s low round of 2-over-par 73 to stay within six strokes of Atkinson’s Evan Desjardins, who also shot a 73 on Tuesday. Representing the shuttered Hanover Country Club, Meehan recorded four birdies, four bogeys and one double bogey in his round. He birdied the par-3 15th hole for the second straight day and finished with three pars to complete his scorecard.
Meehan is at 7-over 149 through two days, with Desjardins at 1-over 143. Four other golfers are two shots behind Meehan.
The field of 41 golfers was split into three flights based on Monday’s opening-round play. Three Upper Valley golfers were in the second flight, which only got in nine holes on Tuesday before inclement weather called play: Hanover High’s Spencer Lawe in second place at 30 over for 27 holes, Eastman’s Roy Shapard was seventh (48 over) and Eastman’s Ben Britton was ninth (59 over).
The tournament concludes on Wednesday.
