LEBANON — Dover plated an unearned run in the top of the eighth inning and made it stick for a 4-3 win over the Upper Valley Anglers 19Us in a New Hampshire COVID Baseball League game on Monday evening at Lebanon High School.

John Luchsinger reached base on a one-out Upper Valley infield error, scoring three batters later when Johnny Cantwell slipped an RBI single to right field. The Anglers’ Jack Loftus (Hanover High) was hit by a pitch to open the home eighth and managed to reach second base, but Dover pitcher Jake Carey struck out the next three batters to clinch the victory.

The Anglers (6-5) saw a three-game winning streak end. They also dropped to 1-2 in extra-inning games this season.

The visitors grabbed the early lead with single runs in the first and second frames. Upper Valley answered with a three-run fourth as Josh Bucci (Hanover) singled home Loftus and Nolan Gantrish (Hanover) before scoring on an RBI single from Brendan Walker (Woodsville). Dover tied the contest at 3-3 in the top of the sixth.

Carey got out of a bases-loaded, out-out jam in the bottom of the seventh. Walker doubled for the Anglers, Ben Williams (Hanover) walked and Keegan Silovich (Hanover) followed with a one-out free pass to fill the sacks. Carey then induced Upper Valley’s Andrew Hadlock (KUA) into a double play to get out of trouble.

Loftus, Gantrish and Walker each had two-hit games for Upper Valley, which visits the Concord Cannons on Wednesday.
