HUDSON, N.H. — The Upper Valley Anglers U17s dropped a New Hampshire COVID Baseball League season-opening doubleheader to host Hudson on Saturday, falling in an eight-inning opener, 8-7, before a 13-1 defeat in the nightcap at Alvirne High School.

The Anglers (0-2) nearly took the first game of the twinbill, erasing a 6-3 deficit in the top of the seventh inning before Hudson squeezed out the come-from-behind victory. Keyed by a base hit from Ian Hedgepeth (Hanover High), Upper Valley scored four times in the seventh for a 7-6 lead. Hudson nicked relief pitcher Jon Carrier for a tying run in the home seventh, then completed the win in extras.

Game two was all Hudson, which combined 10 hits and four Upper Valley errors for a double-digit victory.

Colin Pierce (Hanover) had two hits in each contest to lead the Anglers. Dominic Nutting (Fall Mountain) had a pair of hits in the opening game and one more in the nightcap, and Hayden Chandler (Fall Mountain) provided two hits for Upper Valley in game one.
