PHOENIX, AZ — William Harvey Durphey, 84, died early Thursday morning, January 30, at Suncrest Nursing Home in Phoenix, AZ. He was born November 19, 1935 in Pomfret, VT the son of Edward and Mildred (Warren) Durphey.
He lived his entire life in Windsor, Vermont attending grade school and graduating from Windsor High School in 1954. He served in the US Navy from 1954-1958 and after his honorable discharge took a job at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Windsor. William retired after twenty-nine years of service in 1987.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling at Dick’s Lanes and throwing horseshoes.
William was a member of the American Legion Post #25, the Windsor Elks Lodge #1665 and the Moose Lodge #679 in Springfield, VT.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister Betty White.
William is survived by three daughters, Kelly Bowker of Phoenix, AZ, Kim Thompson of Pomfret, VT, Terry Morganroth of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, David Durphey of Claremont, NH; a sister, Maxine Griswold of Windsor, VT; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors, will be held later in the springtime in the Hillside Cemetery in Quechee, VT. Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, VT has been entrusted with arrangements.
