WOODSTOCK, VT — Andrew B. Cook, age 91, passed away peacefully in Woodstock, Vermont on January 19, 2020. He was born on May 30th, 1928, in Troy, New York, the third son of Sidney A. and Alison Chamberlain Cook. He attended the Loomis Chaffee School and earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations in 1949 from Yale University.

Andrew is survived by his loving and caring wife of 30 years, Beverlee S. Cook, his daughters Emily, Jennifer, and Alison and her husband Daniel, his son Stewart and his wife Stacy and five grandchildren; his brother Philip; his stepchildren Jay, Robbin, John, Deanna, Hillary, and Tobye, as well as sixteen step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son Andrew.

Andrew spent 40 years in government service and retired in 1989 as a Lt. Col with the U.S. Marine Corps. He received a Bronze Star Medal in the Korean War. He was an Intelligence Officer, an instructor at Princeton University, and held positions in the Defense Intelligence Agency, the CIA, and the Office of Naval Intelligence in the Pentagon.

Andrew loved the hills of Vermont, and had a special affinity for Greensboro where he spent many summers of his life. He was active with the Woodstock Conservation Committee, enjoyed reading about military history and being part of the local gun club in Greensboro, and valued many discussions of local and national politics with family and friends.

A committal service with military honors will be held at the Vermont Veterans Cemetery Chapel in Randolph VT on May 11, 2020 at 11:00am followed by a celebration of his life at the Applehill Inn in Taftsville.
