HOSCHTON, GA — Elsie Mae (Smith) Ewing, 88, of Hoschton, Georgia, formerly of Treasure Island, Florida and Enfield, New Hampshire, passed away on December 28, 2019. Elsie was born in Hanover, New Hampshire on December 5, 1931. She grew up in a large, loving family with her brothers, David, Louis, Howard, and John; and her sisters, Jane and Shirley. In the early 1950’s, Elsie worked at the Hotel Coolidge in Vermont, and it was there that she met her future husband, Darian “Rusty” Ewing. The couple were a solid part of the Coolidge community and to this day, paintings by a local artist can be found around the hotel featuring Elsie, as well as other family members and friends. Elsie supported Rusty in his business and she also was a homemaker and loving mother to their children: Dawn Marie of Lebanon, NH, Randy (Shannon) of Pikesville, MD, and Bradley (Heta) of Acworth, GA. “Mom” was always supportive and could be seen attending and cheering on her children at their sporting events and other activities. Mom (Mrs. E.) played many roles for her children and their friends. She was a supporter, cheerleader, chauffeur, a confidant, and an advocate. She was a frequent feature on the sidelines proudly cheering on her children as they played sports. Mom was lovingly known as “Grammy” by her grandchildren Scott Maddaline, Caitlin Maddaline, Adam Ewing (Mary), Analisa Ewing Wendt (Erich), and David Ewing (Deniel). “Grammy” was lovingly known as “GG” by her great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Jamon, Noah, Brady, Lilliana, Madalynn, Mackenzie, and Mark and the late Jaxson David. Being close by, GG maintained her role as chief cheerleader, and she rarely missed an opportunity to attend Brady and Mackenzie’s games and other events. Elsie lived a long, rich life surrounded by her loving family. She was blessed to have 57 years of marriage to Rusty, who predeceased her in 2009. Elsie, GG, Grammy, Sister, Aunt, Wife, Friend, and MOM will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Honoring Elsie’s wishes, no service will be held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
