AGAWAM, MA — It is with great sadness that the family of Albert A. Romano, MD, announces his passing. The doctor entered into eternal rest on December 17th with his loving family at his bedside. Dr. Romano was born on October 11, 1927 to the late Albert and Lena Romano. He was raised in White River Junction, Vermont, and attended local schools. Albert served his country in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman from 1945 to 1947. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Medical Technology in 1951 from The University of Vermont and went on to receive his medical degree from The University of Vermont College of Medicine. After completing his internship in Beverly, MA, he moved to Agawam to build his practice as a General Practitioner specializing in Family Medicine. After 60 years in private practice, he retired at 87 years of age.

Dr. Romano married Nancy E. Freeman on September 11, 1952, and they spent 67 devoted years together. Albert enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading, and playing tennis and golf. He had a zeal for politics and was always up for any kind of debate. He was always available to his patients, friends and family. He was a mentor who was supportive and dependable; a great listener. The Romano family will have an endearing future as a result of his great gift as a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. We were fortunate to have him as the person who ties us all together.

Besides his dedicated wife Nancy, he leaves behind his three children: Michael and his wife Susan of Northwood NH, Linda Romano and Scott Karam of West Springfield, and Christopher Romano of Agawam. He is survived by his sister Patricia and her husband Herbert Castellini of White River Junction, and his brother Richard and his wife Kay of North Reading MA. He was predeceased by his sisters Antoinette Mayette and Pauline McCarthy. Left to carry on his legacy are his grandchildren Courtney, Tyler, Corrie-Nicole and Weston. He was predeceased by his loving granddaughter Michaela.

Calling hours for Dr. Romano were held Monday, December 23rd at the Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main St., Agawam, from 4-7 P.M. Family and friends gathered at 9 A.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home and then proceeded to St. John the Evangelist Church for a liturgy of Christian burial at 10 A.M., with final committal services at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 11 A.M.
