WILLIAMSTOWN, VT — Sachiko Goss Drown, 88 died Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, VT.

She was born September 30, 1931 in Tokyo, Japan, the daughter of Menetara and Chiyo Shimoka. She grew up in Japan, where she received her schooling.

In October of 1949 she married Maurice N. Goss of East Randolph, VT. Together they had two daughters, Sherry and Janet. In 1951 they moved to the United States to East Randolph, VT. Maurice died December 11, 1964. On January 26, 1974, she married Francis “Frank” Drown. They lived in West Hartford where together they ran the West Hartford store for several years. After selling the store, in 1999, they moved to Bethel, VT, where they lived until Frank’s death on December 23, 2002. She moved to Williamstown in 2003 where she has lived since.

She was very proud of the fact that in 1961 she became a citizen of the United States of America. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking Japanese cuisine for family and friends. She took pride in always looking her best, right down to the high heel shoes, even if she was going out in a snowstorm! She may have been small but she was feisty and not afraid to speak her mind. Sachiko’s greatest love was for her family, time spent with them brought her the most joy, shown by the loving smile she gave us all at our last family gathering. Her life was a very difficult and rough journey but she prevailed. She was the matriarch that held us all together.

She is survived by her daughters, Sherry White of South Barre, VT and Janet Boucher of Barre, VT, five grandchildren, Kristina Oliver (Mitch), Tommy White (Katie), Joe White (Sara), Teri Bartlett (Rob), Stephen Greene (Kristin), and 11 great-grandchildren with another one on the way.

There are no public calling hours. A memorial funeral service will be held Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 2 pm at the Boardway and Cilley Funeral Home, 300 VT RT 110, Chelsea, VT. Burial will be at a later date.
