WHITE RIVER JCT, VT — Daniel Allen Reed, 68, died Wednesday October 30, 2019 at home, surrounded by family.
He was born December 27, 1950 in Lebanon, NH a son of Francis and Louise (St. Francis) Reed. After graduating from Hartford High School Class of 1971, Dan served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge from the military he settled in the Northeast Florida area where he lived until 1981 when he returned to the Upper Valley and has lived since. Dan drove truck for various companies in the Upper Valley including Kleen and most recently was a loader operator at Twin State Sand and Gravel in North Hartland.
Dan was a proud supporter of veterans and was active in several local veteran’s organizations, serving as president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2571 Auxiliary, past commander and treasurer of the American Legion Post 26, Jr. Vice of the Disabled American Veterans Department of Vermont, Commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 3 in White River Jct. and vice president for the Hartford Veterans Council where he also served on the Color Guard.
He was predeceased by a son, Scott Allen Reed; his father, Francis Reed and his mother, Louise Emma Baldwin.
He leaves daughters, Heather Elliot of Tampa, FL, Jennifer Perkins and her husband Jeremy of Quechee, VT, Angele Lyn Reed of Jacksonville, FL and Danielle Farnsworth of White River Jct.; a sister Louise Landry of Severna Park, MD; grandchildren Jacob and Hunter Perkins, Jami Leigh, Lane Allen Reed, Rebekah Reed, Jessikah Elliot, Gavin Farnsworth and Aiden Bushey; a great-grandchild, Dakota Jean Zito and anther great grandchild expected in December as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT on Wednesday November 6th from 6-8PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday November 7th at 11AM with burial following in the Hartford Cemetery. All are welcome to gather at the VFW in White River Jct. following the committal.
