WINDSOR — Alyssa Slocum scored a hat trick to guide top-seeded Windsor to a 11-3 VPA Division III field hockey quarterfinal victory over visiting No. 8 Montpelier on Friday afternoon. Slocum scored her first goal in the first half and netted two in the second. She also tallied an assist off a corner.

“She is very dominant on the field,” Windsor coach Jody Wood said. “She controls a lot of the game play defensively. She’s come a long way with her growth on the field and maturity.”

The Yellowjackets led, 6-0, at the half. Meagan Holling scored two goals in the first 90 seconds of the game. Hannah Wood also had two first-half goals as well as an assist on Angelina Bigwood’s score.

Linda Ricard (two), Chloe Husser and Alexina Peckinpaugh all scored goals in the second half. Windsor outshot the Solons, 32-6.

“It’s a very exciting win,” Jodi Wood said. “Coming out with so much intensity and not playing down to the level was great to see.”

The win sets up a semifinal matchup on Tuesday against the winner of Saturday’s Missiquoi/Harwood game. The contest will be played at Burr & Burton Academy in Manchester, Vt.

BOYS SOCCERStowe 2, Woodstock 0

STOWE, Vt. — Senior goalie Stephen Bianchi made 11 stops, including nine in the first half, but it wasn’t enough to get the No. 9 seed Wasps to the VPA D-II semifinals.

Tied 0-0 at the half, top-ranked Stowe scored in the 55th minute off a corner kick that was set up by a free kick. The Raiders extended their lead with 15 minutes remaining in the match. Woodstock (10-4-2) struggled to get shots off in the second half.

The Wasps will lose Christian Bloch, Blake Heston, Sam Mitchell, Gabe Bango, Harrison Morse and Bianchi to graduation.

“They showed great leadership with a lot of adversity,” coach Tom Avellino said. “They kept the ship afloat and together. They did their job on the field, too. Very happy with that.”

Hanover 4, Londonderry 0

LONDONDERRY, N.H. — The Marauders scored their four goals over an 11-minute span early in the second half.

Charlie Adams scored on an Eric Ringer pass two minutes into the second half. Adams then assisted on the next three goals: Ringer converting on a free kick, Kyle Doucette executing a bicycle kick and Doucette heading in the final score.

Adams finishes the regular season with 20 goals and 17 assists. Joey Perras recorded his fifth shutout of the season.

Hanover (13-2-1) will either be the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the upcoming NHIAA D-I tournament and will host a first round game on Wednesday.

Milford 1, Lebanon 0

LEBANON — After a convincing 2-0 win over ConVal on Wednesday, the Raiders stumbled against visiting Milford.

Lebanon (14-2-0) allowed the lone goal in the 22nd minute. The Raiders created 12 corner kick opportunities, but Milford was organized and tough. Jorgen Leuthauser made two saves in goal for Lebanon, which will be No. 1 or No. 2 in the upcoming NHIAA D-II tournament.

GIRLS SOCCER

Rivendell 5, Long Trail 0

ORFORD — Kylie Taylor’s three assists helped the No. 3 seed Raptors trounce No. 11 Long Trail and advance to Wednesday’s VPA D-IV semifinals. Rivendell (10-6-0) will play at No. 2 West Rutland.

Mikayla Stever tallied the Raptors’ first goal on a Sienna Carter pass in the 15th minute. Taylor then had her three assists on goals from Kendyl Boisvert (23rd minute), Carter (30th) and Stever (55th). Rivendell’s last goal was scored by Eliza Tse in the 74th minute.

Goalies Cora Day and Ryleigh Butler combined for six saves and the shutout.

Thetford 5, BFA-Fairfax 0

THETFORD — Gevie Horster struck for a pair of first-half goals to power the top-ranked Panthers (13-2-1) continued pursuit of their third straight VPA Division III championship with a comprehensive blanking of the eighth-seeded Bullets (9-7-0).

Horster put TA on the board in the 10th minute by converting a Madi Powers cross, doubling Thetford’s lead shortly after that on an Ellen Veracka pass. The Panthers built the lead to 4-0 by halftime as Powers headed a deep corner from Casey MacVeagh and MacVeagh turned home a Veracka cross. Manya Benjamin scored in the second half for TA, assisted by MacVeagh.

Defenders Grace Davis, Sophie Williams and Lexi Gaetz kept a clean sheet with netminder Emma Berard. Thetford will host a semifinal on Wednesday against the winner of Saturday’s Peoples-Enosburg quarterfinal.

Proctor 7, Sharon 0

PROCTOR, Vt. — Top-seeded Proctor was clinical in front of the net, scoring on seven of 13 shots and eliminating the No. 9 Phoenix from the VPA D-IV tournament.

“I was generally happy with our defending; they just punished small errors that we made, scoring several from long range,” coach Andy Ruddell said. “Our girls continued to fight all the way through the final whistle, creating several chances down the stretch, but only managed to muster three shots on target.”

Sharon graduates three seniors: Rory Livingston, Sophia DiGuiseppe and Nicole Harrington.

Hanover 2, Lebanon 0

HANOVER — Goalie Bella Bardales recorded the shutout for the Marauders, tallying Hanover’s 13th shutout of the season in the regular-season finale.

Sage McGinley-Smith scored the first goal of the game on an assist from Charlotte Johnson and McGinley-Smith returned Johnson the favor.

Hanover (16-0-0) has the No. 1 seed in NHIAA D-II locked down and won’t open the tournament until Nov. 3. The Raiders finish the regular season 3-9-4.

WEST CANAAN — The Royals closed out the season with a straight-sets win to improve to 9-7 on the season. Pairings for the NHIAA D-III tournament will be announced Monday.

FOOTBALLWindsor 22, Springfield 12

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — The fifth-seeded Yellowjackets (4-5) won third game, their fourth in five and avenged an earlier regular-season loss to the fourth-ranked Cosmos (5-4) to take their VPA Division III quarterfinal at Brown Memorial Field.

Windsor will meet either Woodstock or Poultney in the state semifinals next weekend.

Mascoma 30, Raymond 13

RAYMOND, N.H. — The Royals (3-4) capped off their NHIAA Division IV season by upsetting the Rams, with seniors Tyler David and Sean Rostron scoring points in their final games.

David contributed a touchdown and Rostron had a pair of two-point conversions. Cooper Peavey scored two TDs, one on a run and the other on a Mike Evans pass. Evans added a TD run as well as a two-pointer.

“We took care of the ball,” second-year coach Kyle Colburn said. “It was nice. We had zero turnovers tonight. We were good in all facets of the game.”

Colburn graduates five: David, Rostron, Laurence Gibbs (who missed the season with an injury), Hawk Shawn and Raven Streeter.

Lebanon 45Ilks.-Moultonborough 6

LEBANON — The Raiders (8-0) guaranteed no worse than a top-four spot in the upcoming NHIAA Division III state tournament with a dominant win at Henry Emerton Memorial Field.

Lebanon built a 23-0 lead at the half. The Raiders can clinch the tournament top seed with a win over Campbell on Friday.

John Stark 25, Hanover 7

HANOVER — Shaemus Murphy’s 75-yard touchdown run was all the Marauders (0-8) could manage against the Generals at Merriman-Branch Field.

The visitors led by at least a score at every quarter break. Caleb Morse and Gabe Schroeder led Hanover in tackles. The Marauders close their season at Plymouth on Saturday.

 

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALLDartmouth 3, Harvard 0

HANOVER — The Big Green won in straight sets 25-22, 25-19, 32-30 against the visiting Crimson. The win marks the first time since 2011 that Dartmouth has won twice in a season against the Harvard. The Big Green also hadn’t won in straight sets over Harvard since 2009. 

Grace Wiczek had a team-high 18 kills, Nicole Liddle tallied two serving aces and Makenzie Arent contributed 13 digs. 

The win breaks a six match Ivy Leage losing streak. Dartmouth (6-11, 2-6) hosts New Hampshire on Saturday night. 

 

WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEYHarvard 7, Dartmouth 4

HANOVER — Despite a goal and an assist each from freshmen forwards CC Bowlby and Catherine Trevors, the Big Green dropped their season opener. Sophomore Gabby Billing posted two assists. 

A third-period hat trick from the visiting Crimson’s Kristin Della Rovere was the difference. Goalie Hannah Humphreys tallied 17 saves for Dartmouth, which visits Vermont on Tuesday.
