NEW LONDON, NH — Ellen Terhune Schauff of New London died peacefully on October 22 after a short illness.

She was a world traveler and lived in both South Africa and Germany with her husband, Dietrich Schauff, who predeceased her in 2013. When Ellen and Dietrich retired, they chose to settle in New London where Ellen had attended Colby Sawyer, graduating in 1964, and which was close to her family’s summer residence in Canaan.

Ellen had many interests in New London. She volunteered with the St. Andrew’s Church Thrift Shop and church fair, was an officer of the New London Garden Club and the International Women’s Club and was also a devotee of mahjong. She enjoyed the many cultural attractions of the Sunapee/Upper Valley region including Northern Stage, Adventures in Learning, and Dartmouth’s Ocher.

She is survived by her brothers, Robert (Lorna) and Frank (Sarah) Terhune, nephews Andrew and Chris, nieces Debbi, Leila, Kristin and Teddy, and many great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Ellen will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, October 25, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 52 Gould Road, New London, NH 03257.
