ORFORD — A.J. DeBois had a hat trick to lead the No. 4 seed Rivendell High boys soccer team to an 8-0 VPA Division IV first-round tournament win over No. 13 Mid Vermont Christian on Tuesday.
Johnny Vogelien, Derek Vogelien, Ander AlbaErazo and Chris Pierce all tallied goals for the Raptors, who also received an own goal.
Rivendell (12-3) will host to No. 12 seed Craftsbury on Saturday. The Chargers upset No. 5 seed Twinfield, 2-1, in overtime in their opening matchup.
Mid Vermont Christian closes out the season with a 3-10-0 record.
NORTH CLARENDON, Vt. — Up 2-1 30 minutes into the match, No. 10 seed Windsor allowed five unanswered goals to exit the VPA D-III playoffs.
The Yellowjackets ended their season with a 4-10-1 record on the season and will graduate six seniors.
Dylan Hodgdon scored on a penalty kick in the 25th minute. He assisted on Cooper Bevis’ goal, which gave the Jackets their lead.
“Overall, I thought we did relatively well this season,” Windsor coach Steve Mulloy said. “We weren’t sure how it would turn out. There were a few close games that didn’t go our way. We were hoping to win our first round game. It was a pretty good, hard-fought season.”
WEST CANAAN — Ben Seiler had a hat trick as the Royals closed out the regular season on an eight-game win streak.
Seiler found the back of the net twice in the second half to break a 1-1 deadlock at halftime. The sophomore now has 29 goals on the season and 41 career goals, both school records. Gavin Giovagnoli tallied two assists, and goalie Connor Thompson made five saves.
Mascoma’s 12-4-0 regular-season record is the program’s best in the last 10 years. The Royals’ playoff fate will be announced Monday.
WELLS RIVER, Vt. — The Bucks scored the game-winning goal three minutes into the second half to hand the No. 9 seed Phoenix a loss in the opening round of the VPA D-IV playoffs.
Starting Sharon goalie Ben Rodis took a knee to the head in the first half and was substituted a minute into the second half for freshman Caleb Benjamin. Sharon (6-9-0) returns 13 players but loses top-scorer Olly-Skeet Browning.
HANOVER — Charlie Adams had two goals and an assist to help the Marauders improve to 13-1-0.
Eli Stack scored in the seventh minute for Hanover with an assist to David Stoffel. The 1-0 lead lasted until Hanover erupted for four goals in the second half, two of which came from Adams to give the senior 18 goals on the season. Blake Palmer and Stoffel also scored.
Keepers Joey Perras and Andrew Enelow made a combined six saves to split the shutout. Amane Matsuoka and Jackson Lake each added assists.
Hanover is back in action on Wednesday at Pinkerton in a makeup game.
LEBANON — The Raiders (13-1-0) began a busy stretch to end the regular season with a shutout of the Spartans.
Griffin Auch headed home a Ryan Oliveira cross in the 17th minute for the game’s first goal. Tyler St. Martin then fed Nathan Magari for an insurance goal in the 63rd minute. Logan Falzarano put a bow on things with his goal in the 68th minute, with an assist to Ben Tichner.
Keeper Jorgen Leuthauser made four saves for the Raiders. The match was the first in a stretch of three games in four days for Lebanon, which hosts ConVal on Wednesday and Milford on Friday.
THETFORD — The top-seeded Panthers advanced to the quarterfinals of the VPA Division III playoffs thanks to two goals from Casey MacVeagh and two assists from Ellen Veracka.
Thetford led, 5-0, at the half. Namya Benjamin and Sophie Williams both scored. Lily MacVeagh and Williams each had an assist. The final goal of the half was on a penalty kick converted by Becca Wells.
Randolph scored on two breakaway goals in the second half, but the Panthers responded with goals by Madi Powers and Geneva Horster.
Thetford will host the winner of White River Valley/BFA-Fairfax on Saturday.
LUDLOW, Vt. — Down 1-0 after the first 20 minutes of play, the No. 9 seed Phoenix rallied to advance to the quarterfinals.
Brandy Lewis scored the equalizer in the 25th minute off a Savanna Bragg assist. Lewis scored the game-winner with a second remaining before the half on a cross from Isabella Amadeo.
Sharon had opportunities in the second half, but failed to convert. Center back Abby Gross played a vital role in holding off Black River in the last five minutes of the match.
Sharon will visit No. 1 seed Proctor on Friday.
CLAREMONT — The Cardinals dropped to 12-2-1 and play at Hillsboro-Deering on Thursday.
WEARE, N.H. — Caroline Laramie scored with 14 minutes remaining in the match, running onto a bouncing ball off a Sally Rainey punt, but the Raiders couldn’t strike again.
John Stark scored five minutes in and made it a 2-0 lead early in the second half. Rainey made seven stops in net. Lebanon (3-8-4) visits Hanover on Friday.
MONTPELIER, Vt. — The No. 13 seed Wasps ended the season 5-9-1 with the loss in the first round of the VPA D-II playoffs.
HANOVER — The Marauders won in straight sets (25-18, 25-21, 25-22) over visiting Laconia.
Claire Adner led the attack with 10 kills, and Willa Parkins blocked five balls at the net to key the defense.
Hanover (5-10) hosts Oyster River on Thursday in a must-win contest for playoff contention.
HANOVER — The Big Green closed out the nonconference portion of their schedule with a loss to visiting Hartford.
The Hawks scored the game-winning goal in the 50th minute.
Henry Stusnick made his first start of the season in goal and finished with five saves for Dartmouth (5-6-1, 2-1-0). The Big Green continue Ivy League play on Saturday when Columbia visits Hanover.
HANOVER — Allie Winstanley scored twice as the Big Green (9-5-0) routed the Salukis at Burnham Field.
Charlotte Esty, Mollie McGorisk and Ellie Geier accounted for Dartmouth’s other goals. Mariel Gordon and Charlotte Cyr combined on the shutout.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Wenyen Gabriel signed a standard NBA contract with the Sacramento Kings on Monday.
Gabriel, who is from South Sudan, spent most of his youth in Manchester and played some high school basketball for Trinity High.
He played two years at the University of Kentucky and was a member of the Kings’ G-League affiliate last year, where he averaged 10.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.1 blocks and 20.7 minutes per game in 42 games.
