PARKER, Colo. — The Upper Valley golfers participating in this week’s U.S. Mid-Amateur championship went in opposing directions during the tournament’s open medal-play round on Saturday.
Dartmouth College graduate James Pleat left himself in excellent shape to make the cut for match play with a 2-under-par 68 at CommonGround Golf Course in nearby Aurora. Pleat, of Nashua, N.H., who birdied four holes between round-beginning and -ending bogeys, is tied for 10th place.
Lebanon’s Pat Pelletier struggled in his debut USGA championship round, had a 10-over 82 at Colorado Golf Club. Representing the Quechee Club, where he works, Pelletier lost seven strokes to par over his final five holes and is in danger of missing the match-play cut.
Golfers switch courses for Sunday’s second round. The top 64 survivors advance to match play at Colorado GC starting on Monday.
