ENFIELD, NH — Elizabeth F. Blain passed away August 19, 2019 at her home in Enfield surrounded by her children. Bette was born January 7, 1928 in Norwich, VT to Weymouth L. and Helen K. Tilden. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years Wilfred in 2016, her parents, brothers Robert and David Tilden, grandson Tyler A. Blain. She is survived by sons Stephen A. Blain and wife Carol of Dunnellon, FL and Stuart A. Blain of Canaan, NH, daughters Susan E. Blain and Sharon E. Kiley and her husband Dan of Enfield, NH. She is also survived by sister Kathryn Wheeler of West Lebanon, NH, brothers Benjamin and Dexter Tilden and his wife Beth of Post Mills, VT as well as 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Bette was a parishioner at St. Helena’s Catholic Church in Enfield. She was a talented seamstress, cook, and crafter and worked many years at the St. Helena’s Holiday Bazaars. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. In recent years she made literally hundreds of potholders which she donated to the thrift shop in Enfield. Many people in the area have recipes from Bette’s vast collection of cookbooks and handwritten recipes.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Visiting Nurses and Hospice for Vermont and New Hampshire. A memorial mass will be held in early September with interment following in Oak Grove Cemetery. A notice with dates and times will be published in a future edition.
