WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — With Rosie Keith leading the way, the first-year Upper Valley Rapids swim team won the Division V title at the Vermont Swim Association state championship meet held on Saturday and Sunday at the Upper Valley Aquatic Club.
Competing among girls ages 13 and 14, Keith grabbed victories in the 50-yard butterfly (27.68 seconds) and 50 freestyle (25.53), adding second-place results in the 100 fly (1:00.61) and 100 individual medley (1:03.69). Keith’s IM time was a personal best by more than four seconds.
Other highlights:
■ Brandy Lewis, among girls ages 15-18, was second in the 100 free (58.51) and third in the 200 free (2:10.43).
■ Nate Holt claimed seventh among boys ages 9-10 in the 25 free (15.89), eighth in the 50 free (36.33) and ninth in the 100 IM (1:43.36).
■ Adeline Manning took 15th among girls ages 9-10 in the 25 backstroke (21.29).
The 20 Rapids who competed at UVAC raced in a total of 46 events and produced 20 personal bests. The Rapids competed against 20 other programs split into five divisions.
D-V team scores: Upper Valley Rapids 213, Quechee Swim Team 188, Stowe Swimmers 139, Marlins Summer Swim Team 16.
The Vermont Soccer Officials Association will hold a pair of training sessions in the Upper Valley this month in the hopes of drawing new people into officiating the game at the high school level.
Southern Vermont soccer officials assigner Gary Blodgett will lead sessions at the Maxfield Sports Complex in White River Junction on Aug. 14 at 4 p.m. and at White River Valley High School in South Royalton on Aug. 24 at 8:30 a.m. The training includes reviewing rules of the game, a test and a field practice. Follow-up support and mentorship is also provided.
The cost of either clinic is $75, which includes VSOA membership for one year, the training and insurance. Once completed, participants will be eligible to work Vermont high school varsity and subvarsity matches anywhere in the state.

NEWPORT — The Tom and Judy Tuohy Memorial Scholarship Fund is seeking golfers for a fun fundraising day on the links at the 13th Hawaiian Shirt Open, scheduled for Aug. 18 atNewport Golf Club.
The scramble-format tournament heads out at 11 a.m., following a 9:30 a.m. registration and bloody mary hour. The tournament fee of $100 covers greens fees, power carts, a mid-round snack and a post-golf buffet.
The tourney raises money for the Touhy Fund, which has distributed scholarships to graduating seniors from Sunapee High School since 2003 and Newport High School since 2011.
