WEST LEBANON, NH — John Andriopoulos, age 94, of West Lebanon, New Hampshire and formerly of Lynn, Massachusetts, passed away at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative & Hospice Care on Saturday, July 27, 2019. John was born on August 7, 1924, in West Lynn, Massachusetts. He was the oldest son of Andrew and Georgia (Theodoropoulos) Andriopoulos. He married his loving wife, Chrisafula Olga (Panos) Andriopoulos on August 22, 1954, in Bennington, Vermont. John graduated from Lynn Classical High School in June 1943 and was inducted into the United States Army on June 16, 1943. He served with the 168th Engineers Combat Battalion, Headquarters Company. Throughout his military service, he served in battles and campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe and liberated the concentration camp Ohrdruf. In defense of St. Vith, his unit was awarded the Distinguished Unit Citation and the Belgian Croix de Guerre. Upon returning from war in 1945, he graduated from Franklin Technical School in Boston and later his Master Plumber’s License from the State of Massachusetts. He also held a Master Plumber’s License from the State of Vermont. John worked with his father and brother in their family business, serving Lynn, Massachusetts and the surrounding communities. He had a brilliant mind for engineering and continued that work for over 60 years, until his retirement at age 82 years young. He worked many years for Old Neighborhood Meats where his innovative and brilliant engineering designs were applied to the fabrication of the operation on many projects. His problem solving skills were unmatched. John was instrumental in organizing his Army Battalion reunions and helped spearhead the project for the erection of a monument at Ft. Devens to honor all those who served in the 168th Engineers Combat Battalion. John was one of a kind and the last of one of the greats of his generation. His generosity and willingness to help others and service to his country will not be forgotten.
In addition to his wife Chisafula, he leaves his daughter, Georgia Sofronas and her husband Demo of Norwich, Vermont; his two grandchildren John Sofronas and Anastacia Barr and her husband William Barr IV, who learned valuable life lessons from their grandfather; his four amazing great-grandchilden, Corban Sofronas, Chloe Sofronas, William Barr V and Ethan Barr, who have fond memories of spending time with him and his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Spiros Andriopoulos and his sisters, Calliope Gavrilles and Carol Andriopoulos.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2019 in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean St. (Rt. 1A), Lynn, at 12p.m. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
