CONCORD — Rising Hanover High senior Jack Meehan finds himself in the middle of the pack through the first round of the New Hampshire Golf Association junior championship at Beaver Meadow Golf Course.
Meehan, whose summer has included qualifying for the New Hampshire Amateur earlier this month at Portsmouth Country Club, shot a 6-over-par 78 on Monday and is tied with Concord Country Club’s Jake Mielcarz for 15th place in the 37-golfer field. Meehan had two bogeys and two doubles on his opening nine before bouncing back nicely with an even-par back side. The final nine included his only birdie of the day, on Beaver Meadow’s par-4 12th hole.
Atkinson’s Mathew Gover holds a two-shot lead after a 1-under 71 to open the tournament. Amherst’s Gunnar Senatore shot 73, and Nashua North junior Bryce Zimmerman is tied with Atkinson’s Jack Pepin at 76.
The tournament continues on Tuesday.
After 36 holes, players will be set up into flights for the final round of the tourney on Wednesday.
