MONTPELIER — So much for a showcase.

Five Upper Valley Nighthawks took part in Sunday’s New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game festivities at the Vermont Mountaineers’ Recreation Field, though the game between the league’s two divisions was cancelled in after 2½ innings due to rain.

Upper Valley Nighthawks’ Jordan DiValerio (St. Joseph’s) gave up a hit and struck a batter out in a scoreless second inning for the Northern Division. Cole Frederick (Jacksonville State) popped out to center field in the rain-shortened contest. Andrew Cossetti (St. Joseph’s) hit five home runs in the home run derby. Aaron Haase (Wichita State) and Anthony Quirion) did not make it into the game, but participated in the skills showcase early Sunday morning.

Upper Valley (23-16) will travel to the Sanford Mainers for a make-up game on Monday.
