ORFORD — Spectators at this year’s Mt. Cube Masonic Auto Show will have an opportunity to view a new class of vehicles: motorcycles.
“Somebody brought an antique motorcycle last year,” said Jane Hebb, a member of the committee that organizes the annual event.
The motorcycle was a hit.
“We got the idea that maybe people would like to display other motorcycles so that’s why we added it on this year,” Hebb said.
The event, which is now in its 14th year, takes place beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the Orford Green on Route 10. Admission costs $3 for spectators and people can come with their vehicles the day of the event for $13 or it costs $11 if they register in advance by calling Hebb at 603-353-4466 or 603-726-6095. Lunch and other refreshments will be available to purchase. The rain date is Sunday. The proceeds benefit the Mt. Cube Masonic Lodge building and scholarship fund.
Also new this year is the way the car show will be judged.
Spectators and participants are being asked to play a more active role in the awards process by voting for their favorite vehicles in the show’s seven categories: modified/street rods, modern (year 2000 and newer), foreign, motorcycles, tractors, classics and antiques. Three other awards — grand master’s choice, worthy grand matron’s choice and best of show — will be selected by judges.
“We’re trying something a little different this year,” Hebb said.
Judging is from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and awards will be given out at 2 p.m.
Depending on the weather and the year, anywhere between 40 and 70 vehicles are at the show. People return year after year to showcase their vehicles.
“They like our show because it’s on Orford’s historic green. It’s not so hot,” Hebb said of the participants, adding that she has heard from many who tell her “how nice it is to have it on grass instead of on pavement.”
