SANFORD, Maine — The Upper Valley Nighthawks put together 14 hits in a dominant performance over the Sanford Mainers on Saturday night, a 12-3 win at Goodall Park.

The Nighthawks improved to 10-7 with the victory, winning six of its last eight contests. They host the Valley Blue Sox at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Newcomer Easton Kirk (Troy) led the way with three hits, a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored. Brian Moore (Lipscomb) was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Cole Frederick (Jacksonville State) was 2-for-5, including a solo home run in the fifth inning, and he finished the game with two RBIs and two runs scored.

On the mound, Jordan DiValerio (St. Joseph’s) was strong again in his third start of the summer. He struck out nine in six innings, giving up five hits and two walks. Henry Gladson (Notre Dame) and Corley Woods (Jacksonville State) shut the door in the final three innings.

H.S. HOCKEY N.H., Vt. split

BURLINGTON — A four-goal third period lifted the Vermont boys to a 6-1 win over New Hampshire in the Make-A-Wish Hockey Classic on Saturday at UVM’s Gutterson Fieldhouse, their third straight in the annual series.

Vermont’s Colby Brouillette scored two goals and was named MVP.

Teammates Cooper Cioffi, Jace Boerger, Elliot Maher and Patrick Burke also scored. Jameson Goodridge scored for New Hampshire.

Vermont goalies Sam Foster and Logan Cody combined for 13 saves, while New Hampshire counterparts Matthew Strickland and Dakota Robinson made 15.

■Exeter’s Carissa Towlson had a hat trick as the New Hampshire girls defeated Vermont, 4-2.

Hanover High’s Maggie Lee had a goal and two assists for the Granite State. New Hampshire goalies Hilda Barrioz and Izzy Day combined for 15 saves, while Vermont’s Amy Howard and Ally Peeters teamed up for 20.

H.S. FOOTBALL East wins CHaD Game

DURHAM, N.H. — The East defeated the West, 17-13, on Saturday in the CHaD East-West Game at Wildcat Stadium.

The East led at the half, 13-10, after the East’s Jakob Steele (Laconia) and the West’s Tristan Wood (Merrimack) traded pick-sixes.

The West took a 13-10 lead in the third when Concord’s Zach Miles found Ben Eichman for a 31-yard TD. The East retook the lead, 17-14, on a TD by Pinkerton’s Genarro Marra.

Pinkerton’s Gannon Fast was named MVP.
