HANOVER — A sociology professor who has been serving as interim dean of Dartmouth College will now hold the post on a permanent basis.
Kathryn Lively was named interim dean last summer, replacing former Dean Rebecca Biron, and will assume the role of dean starting Monday.
“Over the past year, Kathryn has been an outstanding leader with a deep commitment to student well-being, and an equally deep commitment to the work of Student Affairs in supporting the learning of our students. I am confident that she will continue to have a tremendous positive impact on how Dartmouth students live and learn together,” Provost Joseph Helble said in a statement from Dartmouth.
The Dartmouth dean oversees undergraduate academic life, including Dartmouth’s student affairs division.
Lively, who has a PhD in sociology from Vanderbilt University, came to Dartmouth in 2002. Her research has focused “on the interaction between culture, identity and emotion,” according to Dartmouth.
CONCORD — Republican Gov. Chris Sununu has vetoed a bill that would have required all the motor vehicles purchased or leased by the state to achieve zero emissions by 2039.
In a veto message Tuesday, Sununu said the state is already making great strides toward that goal but should not set arbitrary deadlines that will unnecessarily drive up taxpayer costs. He says the bill would have had a $28 million impact in higher vehicle costs.
Democrats responded that Sununu has no interest in bringing the state closer to a clean energy future.
