CLAREMONT — A 64-year-old Claremont motorcyclist has died following a collision with an SUV whose driver tried to turn into oncoming traffic on Route 120, police said.

Wayne Newell sustained serious injuries in the crash near the Elm Wood Center nursing home around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday; he was later pronounced dead at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Claremont police said in a news release on Monday.

Katharine Sprague, 24, of Claremont, was traveling southbound in a 2007 Toyota RAV4, when she tried to make a left turn into a driveway and collided with Newell, who was operating a 2013 Harley Davidson, police said.

Sprague sustained minor injuries.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and it will be reviewed by the Sullivan County Attorney to determine if criminal charges are warranted, the release states.

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call Claremont police at 603-542-9538.
