Pet owners came out in force for a low-cost rabies clinic in Claremont, eager to get their animals vaccinated at $10 a pop.

Volunteers inoculated 158 cats and dogs during the event, Sullivan County Humane Society Director Cheryl Bromley said.

Vickie Smith, of Unity, brought her fox terrier Pepper, who was a little nervous around the needle but set for a sweet reward: After the shot, Smith was taking Pepper to get doughnuts.

โ€œIt has to be blueberry doughnuts โ€” nothing else,โ€ she said.
