WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — A 50-year-old Bethel man pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police say he fired a gun at a man in December. No one was injured.

Richard Boles also entered a not guilty plea to a misdemeanor reckless endangerment charge during his arraignment in Windsor Superior Court.

Boles, who is a habitual offender, allegedly fired a muzzleloader at Daniel Chandronnet, 28, after Chandronnet arrived at Boles’ Gage Road property to help a woman with her broken-down vehicle, according to a police affidavit in the case.

Boles first told police he fired a muzzleloader but then said he only shot a cap gun into the air. He had told Chandronnet to leave and alleged Chandronnet had been “messing around” with his girlfriend,” the affidavit states.

Boles was released from court on conditions. His next hearing is scheduled for April 23.
