Voting for town and school officers will be by Australian ballot from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, at Town Hall. The floor portion of Town Meeting will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, at Town Hall.
CROYDON — School officials are asking voters to raise $167,091 in taxes to reduce a deficit from the 2017-18 school year. That’s on top of a proposed $1.48 million budget for next school year, which would be a $236,012 increase over the amount approved at Town Meeting in 2018.
SAU 99 Superintendent Patricia Lally wrote in the town report that the school district has hired Municipal Resources Inc. to manage payroll and other accounts and to help develop next year’s proposed budget while the district looked for a certified business administrator.
“This year’s budget was tight, but last year’s budget also resulted in a deficit in the area of tuition,” Lally wrote. “To ensure the debt is paid, a warrant article will be introduced.”
Enrollment at the K-4 Croydon Village School as of Oct. 1 was 32, and Croydon also was paying tuition for just over 60 students in grades 5-12, a majority to public schools in Newport and Sunapee but at least 12 to private schools, according to the town report.
On the town side, the Selectboard is seeking $504,152 for general municipal operations and also is proposing a $158,500 lease/purchase agreement for a dump truck.
