CLAREMONT — The Claremont Police Department on Wednesday released a heavily redacted police report about what took place at the SAU administrative office building on Broad Street last week that resulted in officers being called.

But because it is so redacted, it isn’t clear who was involved in the incident at the Dow building on Feb. 13 or exactly what happened to prompt an individual to press the “panic alarm” and alert police.

The report does indicate that an individual asked who had the “authority” to remove another person from the building. A school district attorney was queried.

Police responded to the offices around 3:10 p.m. on Feb. 13 for a “panic alarm,” according to the report written by Lt. Stanley Andrewski.

The report indicates that employees were having issues with someone in the building.

“(Redacted) was asked to leave the property. (Redacted) was not willing to leave the property,” the report reads.

Claremont Police Chief Mark Chase, who released the redacted report in response to a Valley News inquiry, assisted officers on scene.

Even after law enforcement cleared the scene, he “remained behind to keep the peace,” according to the report.

The SAU 6 board met for nearly two hours on Tuesday night after it went public that police responded to the “panic alarm.”

Chairwoman Marjorie Erickson declined to comment after the meeting other than to say that the meeting pertained to “a personnel matter.”

In an earlier interview, Chase told the Valley News that police conducted a civil standby at the SAU offices until the matter was resolved when someone left the building.

He said no crime was committed, no arrests were made and there is no subsequent investigation by police.

Chase didn’t immediately respond to an email on Tuesday night about what exemption under the state’s public records law allowed him to redact so much of the report.

Interim SAU 6 Superintendent Keith Pfeifer still was employed by the district on Tuesday and was expected to remain until a new superintendent is hired. A message left for him wasn’t immediately returned.
