BENNINGTON, N.H. — Eric Goodney and Kyle Rozzi claimed spots in the Meet of Champions and the Marauder boys gave Kennett a good scare before settling into second place at the NHIAA Division II state meet at Crotched Mountain on Monday.

Rozzi and Goodney both cracked the top 10 in the slalom and Goodney repeated the feat in the GS to make the MOC. Goodney was sixth in the GS with a two-run time of 1:12.75. Rozzi and Goodney finished back-to-back in the slalom, with Rozzi clocking a combined 1:10.74 and Goodney coming in a quarter-second later.

Owen Stannard was 17th (1:15.57) and Dylan Kotlowicz claimed 20th (1:18.01) to complete Hanover’s slalom scoring. Teddy Ruth (1:14.23) and Wesley Stocken (1:14.28) were 11-12 in the giant slalom for the Marauders.

“The team was aware what was at stake; they knew this was a team effort, there was no room for mistakes and they had to do their best,” Hanover coach Gabi Formankova said in an email. “And that is how they skied.”

The Hanover girls’ trip to the NHIAA D-II state meet, originally set for Tuesday at Pats Peak, has been postponed until Thursday by inclement weather.

Lebanon, Newport at D-III states

GILFORD, N.H. — Lebanon and Newport combined to record a half-dozen top-20 finishes at the NHIAA Division III boys and girls state meet at Gunstock.

Newport’s Isaiah Stephens had the big result, placing ninth in the boys giant slalom in a two-run time of 1 minute, 10.2 seconds. Stephens, who also was 23rd for the Tigers’ best slalom result, helped Newport finish sixth out of the 11 scoring boys teams.

Lebanon’s boys cracked the top 20 in each race. John Moorehead was 15th in the slalom (1:19.79) and Graham Ten Haken took 12th in the GS (1:13.07) for the eighth-place Raiders.

Lebanon’s girls were sixth out of 10 scoring schools. Jessie Hastings had a team-best 11th-place result in the GS (1:12.03), with Grace Godfrey also cracking the top 20 (20th, 1:18.00). Ayla Pearson led the Raiders in the slalom, finishing 19th in 1:26.23.

Sunapee Third

LINCOLN, N.H. — Ellie Frederick won the slalom state championship to lead Sunapee to a third place finish.

Frederick won the slalom with a combined time of 54.23 seconds after finishing third in giant slalom (65.13). Silvia Dalton was fourth in slalom (57.26) and eighth in GS (67.34). Saylor Garland added a 14th place finish in slalom and 17th in GS. Robyn Salvitti was 22nd in GS and Eve Robida was 27th for the Lakers in the slalom.

Keatyn Horne led the Woodsville girls, finishing 23rd in slalom (80.78) and 33rd in GS (81.49).

Wasps Enjoy Big Day at Bromley

PERU, Vt. — The Woodstock’s girls team got strong performances from Kelly Gebhardt (second place), Abi Masillo (third), Alice Sperber (fourth) and Taylor Blodomi (sixth) and finished 11 points ahead of second-place Burr & Burton at Bromley Mountain.

The Wasps boys were second, 17 points behind Rutland.

WOODSTOCK — Emma Tarleton scored 19 points, including two of the Wasps’ four points in overtime, and the hosts improved to 7-9. Jane Lackley added 12 points for the Wasps, who visit Green Mountain on Wednesday.

Toni Turner had 11 points and Sophie Howe chipped in 10 for White River Valley.

Hinsdale 47Mount Royal 17

HINSDALE, N.H. — The Royals were shut out in the first quarter and managed one point during the second stanza, falling to 15-5 overall and 13-4 in NHIAA Division IV. Coach Derek Tremblay said the result likely means his team will finish sixth in the division, host a home playoff game. A victory there would likely earn Mount Royal a return visit to Hinsdale, the defending state champion.

Mount Royal, which received nine points from Sophie LaRose, concludes the regular season at Pittsfield on Wednesday.

Rutland 66, Hartford 32

RUTLAND — Kennedy Mullen scored 14 points and Jasmine Jenkins contributed six points but the Hurricanes (3-14) buried themselves with a 32-11 halftime deficit. The Vermont Division I Raiders improved to 11-5. Division II Hartford hosts Fair Haven on Thursday.

Stevens 53, Newport 48

NEWPORT — The Cardinals got 17 points from Sydney Miller to edge the Tigers.

Jenna Pond added 10 points for Stevens (5-13, 4-11). The Cardinals led, 28-18, at halftime.

Alyssa Burr had 18 points for Newport (7-11, 5-10). Selena Coronis added 12 points.

Boys BasketballWoodsville 43, Blue Mountain 39

WOODSVILLE — Corey Bemis hit a layup with 90 seconds remaining and teammate Connor Maccini made three of four free-throw attempts afterwards and the Engineers improved to 11-4 with three games remaining in the regular season.

Woodsville, which received 15 points on five 3-point baskets by Brendan Walker, visits Profile on Thursday. It engages the Bucks in a rematch Monday at Blue Mountain.

Sharon 48, Arlington 41

ARLINGTON, Vt. — Fisher Kelley scored 15 points and Ty Chapin poured in 11 points and the Phoenix is 10-5. Sharon, which led by as many as 17 points during the third quarter, allowed Arlington to pull within four points during the final stanza.

Mount Royal 53, Hinsdale 46

HINSDALE, N.H. — The Knights went on a 22-0 run to start the fourth quarter and key a huge comeback win.

Louis Larosiliere had 24 points for Mount Royal (9-11 overall, 8-9 league). Mateo Hoffman added 14 points and Brendan Moorehouse had nine. The Knights visit Pittsfield on Friday.

Windsor 60, Woodstock 53

WINDSOR — The Yellowjackets took the lead for good with a 17-point effort in the third quarter.

Hunter Grela had 19 points to lead Windsor (9-6). Dakohta Sanderson added 13 points and Robert Slocum had 10.

Harrison Morse made three 3-pointers and had a game-high 27 points for Woodstock (5-8). Caden White added 13 points.

Windsor plays at Springfield on Tuesday. Woodstock hosts Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday.

Hazen 56, White River Valley 51

HARDWICK, Vt. — The Wildcats fell just short against one of the top teams in the VPA Division III standings.

Carder Stratton had a career-high 14 points for WRV. Troy Walker also had 14 points. The Wildcats had it within two points in the final minute before Hazen made some clutch free throws to seal the win.

WRV (10-5) will host Sharon on Wednesday.

Derryfield 55, Sunapee 40

MANCHESTER — Zach Belisle had 17 points and Jordan Chappell had eight points but the visitors couldn’t rally from a 28-12 halftime deficit. Derryfield is 7-8 in NHIAA Division play and Sunapee is 10-4.

The Lakers host Concord Christian on Wednesday.

Montpelier 67, Thetford 65

MONTPELIER — Carter Blain sank a 3-point shot with 11 seconds remaining but the Panthers (10-4) couldn’t get the ball back. Eli Dunnet had 28 points for Thetford, which hosts Oxbow on Wednesday.

KUA 76, Holderness 68

MERIDEN — Enoch Cheeks scored 37 points, Will Engelhardt had 18 points and Trey Parker had 14 points and the Wildcats jumped to 9-9. KUA visits Proctor on Wednesday.

Boys HockeyMissisquoi 3, Hartford 1

HIGHGATE, Vt. — The Hurricanes held a lead before surrendering a pair of power-play goals to the Thunderbirds.

Colsten Allen scored midway through the second period for Hartford; Jacob Dwinell assisted. Missisquoi answered with two goals in the final few minutes of the frame, each with the man-advantage.

Goalie Ross McFate made 27 saves for the Canes (3-9-1), who host Mount Mansfield on Wednesday.

Unified BasketballWhite Mountains 52, Hanover 38

WHITEFIELD, N.H. — Avery Hunnewell scored a team-high 16 points for the Marauders, who dropped their second game of the season.

Eli Weintraub and Ellie Havrda each added eight points for Hanover. The Marauders, whose game at Newfound on Tuesday has been called off by weather, are scheduled to host Gilford on Thursday.
