POST MILLS — The Aloha Foundation will hold its Ohana Ski-O ski orienteering event on Saturday at the Ohana Family Camp.
This outdoor activity is open to skiers, snowshoers and fat-tire bikers at various times of the day. Orienteering involves the adventure of a treasure hunt, with participants using a map and compass to locate pre-placed control flags around the woods. Point values vary with each flag, and participants will have an hour to gather as many points as possible. While competitive in design, the Ohana Ski-O is gears as a fun event for individuals and groups alike.
Anyone with past orienteering experience — or none at all — is welcome to attend. Ski start times will run between 10 a.m.-1 p.m., with times available for snowshoers and bikers between 2-3 p.m. The cost to participate is $5 per person along with one nonperishable food donation; the family fee is $15 along with the donation. Food will be available, and a raffle is planned as well.

NEWBURY, N.H. — Maggie Higgins and Sam Ames gave Ford Sayre a sweep of the girls and boys U12 divisions during Sunday’s Bob Skinner Cup races at Mount Sunapee, a race that doubled as the club’s first state giant slalom qualifier of the winter.
Higgins easily captured the girls’ two-run giant slalom, her combined time of 1 minutes, 27.46 seconds good for a win of nearly three seconds over Mount Sunapee’s Orli Feldman. FSSC’s Reese Hamlin was third (1:33.46), with Campbell Madden taking sixth (1:34.880) and Allie Vogelien claiming ninth (1:37.14).

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Upper Valley Aquatic Club will stage its official Swim-a-Thon at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center on Feb. 16, raising funds to support the club’s competitive and instructional programs.
Most of the club’s 125 swim team members will be participating over a two-hour period, with the goal of swimming a combined 200 lengths of the pool. Donors are encouraged to support the effort either through a flat donation or one based on the distance a swimmer completes.
Funds raised by the event go toward the purchase of new equipment, provide scholarships for swimmers, cover meet fees and help pay for travel to competitions. Ten percent of the donations raised will go directly to the UVAC financial aid fund, while 5 percent of the money will be given to the USA Swimming Foundation.

MANCHESTER — The Hanover Squirt Green youth hockey team recorded a 5-3 win over the Manchester Flames on Jan. 29 to cap a three-wins-in-four-days stretch to close the month.
Ronan Przydzielski powerd the Wild over the Flames with a hat trick. Conor LeRoy assisted on the first goal, the second came unassisted, and Lucia Peraza and Benjamin Fogg helped set up the third. Fogg also scored twice.
Two days earlier, the Wild produced the second of two back-to-back shutouts by blanking Lyndonville, 3-0, at Union Arena in Woodstock. Timothy Rudd, Przydzielski and Bryson Tucker scored the goals, with Leon Schwerdtfeger, Fogg, Jackson Souther, LeRoy and Conor Fox earning assists. Savo Ftorek and Michael Anderson combined on the shutout in the Hanover goal.
Hanover also blanked Rochester, 1-0, on Jan. 26 in Rochester, N.H., as Peraza set up Przydzielski for the Wild’s only goal and Ftorek picked up another shutout. Katherine Moseley’s strong forechecking game and the play of Charlie Ferland, recently returned from a broken arm, also factored into the victory.
EXETER, N.H. — Jackson Watts’ third-period goal broke a tie and sent the Hanover Bantam Greens to a 2-1 win over New Hampshire East at Phillips Exeter Academy on Sunday.
Griffin Urnezis gave the Wild a 1-0 lead in the first period, only to have the host Eagles tie the contest late in the second. Watts followed his goal by joining Julian Correa, Satch Bowie and Cooper Anderson in protecting the goal — and goaltender Dill Eisendrath — the rest of the way.
Hanover visits Upper Valley for a 10 a.m. contest on Saturday.
HANOVER — The Hanover Parks and Recreation Department has rescheduled its annual Occom Pond Party from Saturday to Sunday from noon-3 p.m. on Occom Pond.

FAIRLEE — The ice is all set, and so is the Upper Valley Trails Alliance for its annual Skate-a-Thon fundraiser on Lake Morey.
The Upper Valley Trails Alliance’s annual opportunity to do laps on the Lake Morey Skating Trail to benefit the UVTA has been rescheduled for Feb. 17 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The day — which had been slated for last Sunday but was called off by snow — revolves around the skating trail, a 4½-mile loop on the lake that is also the longest groomed trail of its kind in the United States.
The entry fee ranges between $10 and $25, depending on the participants age and UVTA membership status. The fee comes with free Nordic skate rentals (on a first come, first served basis) along with hot chocolate, soup, lunch and raffle ticket. Skaters can earn additional raffle tickets with each lap they complete.
All proceeds from the day go toward the UVTA’s work to develop and maintain recreational hiking trails and other outdoors programs throughout the Upper Valley. The Skate-a-Thon has been making turns on the Lake Morey Skating Trail since 2003.
Tickets are available online at www.uvtrails.org and can also be purchased on the day of the event by cash, check or credit card. For more information, contact the UVTA at 802-649-9075 or info@uvtrails.org.
