Newport — Two people were injured after their truck slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer truck that was stopped for a school bus on Sunapee Street in Newport Monday afternoon.
The extent of their injuries weren’t immediately known. One of them was airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center around 3:45 p.m. from Parlin Field.
Newport patrol officer Tim Julian said on scene that the tractor-trailer was stopped on Sunapee Street, also known as Route 103, near Riverbend Drive for a school bus that was unloading children when it was struck from behind.
No school children were injured.
The cab of the truck, which was an older model dump-style truck, was mangled. The tractor-trailer truck was driven from the scene, Julian said.
Although the cash remains under investigation, solar glare is believed to be a factor in it, Julian said.
Sunapee Street was closed for a time, but reopened about 4 p.m.
