“The investigation is continuing in order to determine the circumstances surrounding the patient’s death,” a news release on Tuesday afternoon from the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office said. “In order to maintain privacy, the patient’s identity will not be released at this time.”
Authorities said the woman was receiving medical care at DHMC when she died on Sunday.
Assistant Attorney General Ben Agati, who is handling the matter, said an autopsy that had been scheduled for Monday took place, but more information is also being sought.
Agati said he couldn’t release any details surrounding the findings.
“We are not at that stage,” he said in an interview. “It is pending toxicology.”
He said it could take up to 60 days to get the necessary results back. Part of the process is conducted out of state, Agati said.
Authorities have not said publicly what made the woman’s death at the hospital appear suspicious, and what she was being treated for before she died.
The Attorney General’s Office said there is no evidence that there is any threat to the general public.
