Fairlee — A Fairlee man was killed on Wednesday evening when a train struck the small tractor he was using to plow snow, according to a Vermont State Police news release.

An initial investigation found that Lloyd Raymond, 88, was clearing snow from a private driveway with a John Deere tractor at about 5 p.m. near Hodges Farm on Route 5 in Fairlee.

Raymond was pushing the snow across the tracks, the release states, when his tractor was struck by a Vermont Rail System train.

Raymond died at the scene, according to the release.

No criminal charges are pending currently, but the incident is being investigated both by the Vermont Rail System under the direction of the Federal Rail Safety Administration and by the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, according to the release.
