Cambridge, Mass. — Neither team led by more than five points in a back-and-forth second half, but the Harvard men’s basketball team held on to beat Dartmouth, 64-59, on Saturday afternoon at Lavietes Pavillion.

Freshman Taurus Samuels scored a season-high 13 points to lead the Big Green (10-8, 1-1 Ivy). Christian Juzang had 19 points for Harvard (8-7, 1-1).

Samuels and Brendan Barry each made four 3-pointers to keep Dartmouth within striking distance throughout. Barry and Chris Knight, who added eight rebounds, each finished with 12 points.

Dartmouth was trailing by two, 60-58, with Knight going to the free-throw line and 23.1 seconds left on the clock. Knight made the first, but missed the second. Harvard got the rebound and Dartmouth was forced to foul; the Crimson made their free throws to end the game.

“Everyone in our locker room knows this is a game that we not only could have won but should have won,” Dartmouth head coach David McLaughlin said. “We are not merely disappointed with the loss, but angry about losing this one. Give Harvard credit, they simply made more plays down the stretch, but it was certainly within our grasp to be 2-0 in league play.”

Dartmouth entered the game sixth in the country in made 3-pointers per game, with 10.8. The Big Green will open a four-game homestand when they host Brown on Friday night.
