Fire Investigator: ‘Too Soon to Tell’ Cause of Weekend Fire in Newport

Newport — State and local fire officials continue to investigate the cause of a fire that gutted a Laurel Street home over the weekend.

State Fire Investigator Anthony Booth said on Tuesday that officials haven’t reached a formal conclusion.

“It’s too soon right now to tell for sure,” Booth said, adding that interviews are ongoing.

The fire’s cause has been labeled “undetermined” for now, he said. No one was injured in the Sunday night fire at 146 Laurel St.
