Springfield, Vt. — Vermont State Police are investigating after a man was shot at the Holiday Inn Express in Springfield on Sunday afternoon.

The man, whose name hasn’t been released, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and a stab wound, Vermont State Police spokesman Adam Silverman said today.

No suspect is in custody at this time. The incident appears to be isolated and there is no perceived threat to the public at this time, Silverman said.

The victim suffered serious injuries and was transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after the Sunday afternoon incident. An update on his condition wasn’t immediately available.

Springfield police, who started out working the case but have since handed it over to State Police, responded to the Holiday Inn around 3 p.m. for a man who was stabbed with “some sort of object” and shot with a firearm, Silverman said.

The Springfield Police Department posted a statement on its Facebook page on Sunday about an “incident,” but provided few details.

“Due to a critical incident at the Holiday Inn, the Springfield Hospital is in lock down and is not taking any new patients. The Holiday Inn is also on lockdown so please do not go to there. When the situation is deemed safe, we will let everyone know,” the post read.

The lockdowns were lifted later that day.

More information on the shooting is expected to be released later today, Silverman said.

Vermont State Police are juggling three major cases within the past 24 hours, including the shooting in Springfield, a Vermont man who allegedly kidnaped and sexually assaulted a woman at a White River Junction hotel and an officer-involved shooting in Arlington, Vt.
