Claremont — Claremont police are investigating the death of a 50-year-old Cornish man over the weekend.

Claremont Police Chief Mark Chase said Eric Sumner suffered life-threatening injuries in the driveway of a private residence off North Street in Claremont around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Exactly what happened remains under investigation, but the driver of a vehicle either hit or pinned Sumner with it, Chase said.

Sumner, who grew up in Claremont and graduated from Stevens High School, died at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center later Saturday evening, according to Chase said.

Police withheld the name of the driver, though Chase said the pair were friends.

The incident remains under investigation, including whether foul play was involved.
