Burlington — Hartford High sprinter Abayomi Lowe set a Vermont high school state record in the 55-meter dash and Kennedy Mullen had a trio of high finishes to lead the Hurricanes in a meet at Gutterson Field House.

Lowe ran the boys 55-meter dash in a blistering 6.68 seconds to take first place and break the state record in the event. Lowe added a win in the 300 meters in 37.52 seconds. Teammate Hunter Noyes was second in the 300-meter dash in 39.00 seconds and Aaron Mitchell was second in the 1,000 meters in 2:59.46.

Mullen won the girls Division II triple jump, and was second overall even considering D-I, with a leap of 34 feet, 3.50 seconds. Mullen also ran the 600 meters, the first time in her career participating in that event, and broke a school record on her way to a second-place finish in 1:47.03.

“All in all, it was a great day. We moved a couple people around (to new events) and did really well as a team,” Hartford coach Mike Perry said.

Kayla Burnham added a win for the Hurricanes in the girls 3,000 meters with a time of 13:15.45. Josselyn Gretchen was second in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.66 seconds. The Canes had two high finishes in the girls shot put with Maliya Sinclair in second (29 feet, 3.5 inches) and Anne Marie Schneller in third. Caroline Hamilton took third in the 55-meter hurdles.

Boys Basketball

Oxbow 71, Rivendell 55

Bradford, Vt. — Sophomore Bryce Ilsley scored 24 points to lead the Olympians (4-0) over the Raptors (0-4).

Ilsley, average 19.0 points per game so far this season, had 11 field goals on his way to the game-high total for Oxbow. Matt Emerson added 14 points and Orin Mahikoa had 12. Oxbow led, 34-22, at halftime and then locked things up with 20 points in the third quarter.

Zach Gould added 24 points of his own for the Raptors. Luke Senn had nine points.

Oxbow will host Springfield on Thursday. Rivendell plays host to White River Valley on Friday night.

Thetford 60, Windsor 54 (ot)

Windsor — The Panthers (3-2) were clutch from the free throw line in overtime to top the Yellowjackets (2-4).

Thetford scored 12 of its 14 points in overtime from the line as Windsor starting fouling after falling behind early in the extra session. Alex Emerson had 17 points to lead Thetford. Owen Deffner and Jake Colby each added 12 points. Ethan Steingas chipped in nine points for the Panthers.

“It was a good, solid game. We had our chances at the end of regulation, we just didn’t make the plays,” Windsor coach Harry Ladue said.

“Give Thetford credit. They played solid ‘D’ and pulled out the win.”

Hunter Grela and Robert Slocum had 16 points each for Windsor, which plays host to Hartford on Thursday.

Thetford visits Williamstown on Friday.

Mount Royal 61, Hinsdale 41

Keene, n.h. — The Knights picked up their first win of the season, beating Hinsdale in a consolation game at the Keene State holiday tournament.

Mount Royal scored 21 points in the third quarter and then outscored the Pacers 11-3 in the fourth to lock down the win. Mateo Hoffman had 23 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to lead the Knights. Philip Dahlberg added 15 points and Brendan Moorehouse scored 12 points.

Mount Royal (1-6 overall, 0-4 league) will visit Concord Christian on Wednesday.

Sunapee 61Wilton-Lyndeborough 58

Keene, n.h. — Jordan Chappell had 19 points to lead the Lakers over the Warriors in final-day action at the Keene State Holiday Tournament.

Sunapee built a 49-42 lead through three quarters and then held on in the fourth for the win. Kevin Nolan added 14 points for the Lakers. Brady Grzanna had 11 and Zach Belisle had eight points.

The Lakers (4-2 overall, 4-0 league) host Hinsdale on Friday.

Mill River 60, Woodstock 44

White River Junction — The Wasps came up short in the title game of the MVL East-West Challenge at Hartford High.

Harrison Morse had a game-high 21 points to pace Woodstock. Emilio Montano added seven points and Gabe Marsicovetere had six. Woodstock led, 19-15, after the first quarter but then scored a combined 18 points in the next two frames to fall off the pace.

Woodstock (3-2 overall, 2-1 league) plays at Thetford on Jan. 7.

Websterville 43, Sharon 36

Barre, Vt. — The Phoenix (2-3) battled back to within two points in the fourth quarter but couldn’t come all the way back to get the win.

Fisher Kelley had 13 points to lead Sharon. Olly Skeet-Browning added eight and Taylor Leonard had seven points. Sharon trailed, 24-18, at halftime but outscored Websterville, 12-9, in the third quarter to tighten things up.

The Phoenix will visit Twinfield on Friday.

Otter Valley 38, Hartford 28

White River Junction — Shea Bean scored 20 points but the Hurricanes lost in the consolation game of the MVL East-West Challenge.

Bean, a sophomore, made five 3-pointers to pace the Canes on the offensive end, impressing coach Steve Landon.

“He played really well today. He’s been really good, he competes hard out there,” Landon said.

Fall Mtn. 65, Newport 60

Keene, n.h. — The Tigers came up short against the rival Wildcats on day three of the Keene State Holiday Tournament.

J.T. Blaine had a game-high 22 points for Newport. The Tigers (1-7 overall, 0-5 league) plays host to Campbell on Friday.

Manchester — Playing without its starting backcourt, the NHIAA Division II Raiders won the Doug Chandler Christmas Tournament with a comeback victory over the D-I Crusaders in the title game.

Lebanon’s Rebecca Wright had 22 points and was named the tournament MVP. The Raiders were trailing, 46-35, heading into the fourth quarter before scoring 22 points to come all the way back to topple their second D-I opponent in three days. Wright and Sally Rainey (15 points) each scored nine points in the fourth-quarter rally.

“We gained a lot of confidence and started attacking the rim really well,” Lebanon coach Tim Kehoe said. “Our bench really grew up tonight; they played some meaningful minutes. This is a great confidence-builder for us. A lot of kids got a lot of experience and became more confident in themselves.”

The Raiders, who were playing without starting guards Izzy Peress and Megan Gardijan, trailed by as many as 17 points before mounting their charge. Izzy Fabry added eight points for Lebanon (8-0 overall, 5-0 league), which hosts Manchester West on Friday.

Coe-Brown 38, Mount Royal 35

Epping, n.h. — The NHIAA Division IV Knights, utilizing a six-player roster, gave the D-II Bears all they could handle in the Epping Holiday Tournament.

Sophie LaRose (21 points) and Alexis Matte (12) did the bulk of the offensive damage for Mount Royal, which led, 14-11, at halftime. Coe-Brown went on a 15-2 run in the third quarter to take the lead before the Knights answered with 19 points in the fourth to nearly pull off the comeback.

Mount Royal (3-3 overall, 2-2 league) plays a consolation game against Newmarket at 4 p.m. today.

Windsor 44, Mill River 22

Clarendon, Vt. — The Yellowjackets doubles up on Mill River, improving to 5-1.

Olivia Rockwood led a balanced Windsor attack with 11 points, while Adi Prior added seven points and Alyssa Slocum, Reese Perry and Ashley Grela each had six. Windsor led, 24-12, at halftime and then went on an 11-3 run in the third quarter.

“It was good to get a lot of players in and scoring,” Windsor coach Bruce Mackay said. “I have to credit Reese Perry off the bench and (Alyssa) Slocum, who really played good defense today.”

Windsor visits Fair Haven on Saturday.

Girls Hockey

Hanover 9, Massena (N.Y.) 0

West Lebanon — The Marauders (5-1-0 overall, 4-0-0 league) settled for a consolation-game victory on day two of the Hanover Holiday Tournament at Campion Rink.

Emma Tysinger had two goals and two assists to lead the Marauders, while Meredith Morhun added two goals and Maggie Lee had a goal and two assists. Violet Sperry had a goal and one helper. Clara Boland, Sophia Brackett and Sage McGinley-Smith each scored.

Kaye Lindsay, Bryn Kable, Pepper Joseph and Christina Chow had one assist each. Goalie Claire Yegian made 11 saves for the shutout. Coach John Dodds praised the play of Morhun, Sperry and Tysinger.

Harwood-Northfield 8, Hartford 1

Northfield, Vt. — The Hurricanes (0-5-0) couldn’t keep pace with the Highlanders.

Jasmine Wilson scored unassisted for the Canes. Netminders Zoey Pfeiffer and Jacqueline Gour split time. Coach Bill Goldsworthy praised the play of defender Ceci Spaulding.

Hartford hosts Spaulding on Wednesday.

Manchester, Vt. — The Wasps dropped to 3-3-0 with the loss at the Bulldogs. Woodstock hosts South Burlington on Wednesday.

Boys Hockey

Buffalo, n.y. — The Wildcats swept a pair of games in the Nichols School Tournament, improving to 10-3-0 overall.

Sullivan Mack, Zach Whitehead, Arlo Merritt and Drew Bennett scored for KUA in the win over Brunswick. Tomas Mazura had a team-best two assists. KUA outshot Brunswick 29-7. Goalie Veeti Kohvakki earned the shutout.

Mazura, Whitehead and Mack each had a goal and two assists to lead the Wildcats over Belmont Hill. Merritt and Kyle Penney added goals. The Wildcats play Rivers today in the tournament title game.

Women’s Basketball

Colby-Sawyer 70, Baruch 46

New York — The Chargers (6-4) outscored Baruch 47-20 in the second half to run away with the win.

Sunapee High graduate Lexie Hamilton had 27 points, eight assists and seven rebounds for Colby-Sawyer. Tianna Sugars added 17 points and 14 rebounds. Lebanon High product Joslin Wainwright added 10 points.

Men’s Basketball

Salem, Mass. — The Chargers lost on day one of the Salem State Holiday Classic. Dana Bean had 17 points to pace Colby-Sawyer (6-4).

Patrick Coffey added 14 points. Jourdain Bell had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Nick Backer also had 13 points.
